As a part of the Grandparents’ Day celebrations, the Campion Interact volunteers visited Abhaya Old Age Home in Kalamassery. The aim of the visit was to spend quality time with the senior citizens and bring smiles to their faces through love, care and companionship.
During the visit, the students interacted closely with the residents. They listened to their stories, understood their journeys and engaged in heartfelt conversations that brought comfort and happiness. The volunteers also provided groceries, snacks, daily essentials and sanitary items to help meet the day-to-day needs of the elderly. The residents expressed their deep gratitude and joy. They were touched by the students’ thoughtfulness and the attention given to them.
The students engaged the residents in fun activities such as singing and playing “Antakshari.” The home was filled with laughter and cheer. While listening to the personal stories of the elderly, the children felt a sense of sadness as they realized the loneliness and struggles many senior citizens face. This emotional experience left a lasting impression on the students. It made them more empathetic, compassionate and aware of the importance of caring for the elderly in society. The visit was a meaningful experience that reinforced the values of respect, empathy and social responsibility for everyone involved.
